Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water  – Zen Quote

Over the centuries the spiritual journey has been written about in many different ways and modern day psychology has attempted to examine the journey through the study of Transpersonal psychology .

Transpersonal psychology attempts to describe and study the range of spiritual and transcendent experiences that occur, independent of particular religious belief systems. Many people experience a connection to something beyond themselves whether described as god, universal consciousness, or oneness. These experiences may occur through a religious base practice, through the study of esoteric systems, or as a byproduct of exploring altered states of consciousness. Any such experience creates the possibility for expanding consciousness.

The spiritual journey is not the only reason for seeking transcendence. Many people whether as part of a quest for meaning, or a material desire for power and influence, will be drawn to exploring esoteric philosophies and / or embarking on journey of self discovery. Implicit in these journeys is the exploration of altered states of consciousness and a search for transcendence and meaning. This site is aimed at those seeking information on how these experiences take place, how to create such experiences, what we can learn from them, and how to integrate the experience into our lives.
